The Téthys II is a French research vessel belonging to the CNRS- INSU
General
The ship was on the shipyard Piriou in Concarneau built and delivered in August 1993rd
The ship's crew consists of seven people. On day trips where the ship is no more than 20 nautical miles from the coast, twelve more people can be embarked. For longer journeys there is space for eight more people on board. The ship is approved for trips up to 200 nautical miles offshore. It can stay at sea for up to ten days.
The ship is primarily used in the Mediterranean for various research tasks.
Technical data and equipment
The ship is propelled by a Poyaud diesel engine with 478 kW output (Type: UD 25V12), which acts on a propeller . A diesel generator with 85 kVA apparent power and a diesel generator with 55 kVA apparent power are available to generate electricity .
There are two laboratories on board, a 9.4 m² wet laboratory and a 4.5 m² multi-purpose laboratory. Behind the superstructure with the wheelhouse is a 22 m² open working deck. There is space for a 10-foot container here .
The ship is equipped with various winches as well as sonar , echo sounder and other equipment required for research. There is a crane on the starboard side that can lift about a ton. The ship also has a swiveling stern boom .
