The TCDD series HT65000 , also Yüksek Hızlı Tren (YHT) , is a series of high-speed trains operated by the Turkish State Railways (TCDD). They are intended for the Ankara – İstanbul high-speed line and were built by CAF .

history

After the Turkish government approved the construction of a new line between the largest Turkish city of Istanbul and the Turkish capital Ankara in 2001, a suitable vehicle was sought and the HT65000 developed by CAF was selected.

At the end of 2005, the TCDD ordered ten six-line multiple units from CAF. The order value was around 180 million euros. The first multiple unit arrived at the TCDD on November 20, 2007 and was used for test drives until the opening of the first section Esenkent – Eskişehir in March 2009, among other things. Actually, the opening of this section should happen almost at the same time as the arrival of the trains in 2007. In the meantime, 12 vehicles have been handed over to TCDD, two more than foreseen in the original order. If the entire line or further sections go into operation, it is likely that further sets will be reordered. Whether these will then be delivered in the form of HT65000 is questionable.

financing

The TCDD finance their HT65000 series vehicles through loans , which have a term of 22 years.

Construction and equipment

The TCDD series HT65000 is based on the Spanish RENFE series 120 , which was also manufactured by the manufacturer CAF. The main difference is that the TCDD HT65000 only regelspurig has been designed to the necessary in Spain Umspurbarkeit could be dispensed with.

The car bodies are made of aluminum. Each train unit consists of six cars, two of which are control cars and four intermediate cars. Similar to the German ICE 3, the control cars have seats so that all six cars can be used for passenger transport.

In addition to the normal Turkish train control system for old lines, the vehicles are also equipped with ETCS Level 1 , which is used on the new line. ETCS stands for European Train Control System, which was developed in Europe to replace the various train control systems in the long term and thus to simplify and also improve the performance of the route. However, ETCS is currently only used on high-speed lines, such as the high-speed line from Ankara to Istanbul , since a comprehensive conversion is very expensive and time-consuming.

The trains, which can reach top speeds of 250 kilometers per hour, are designed for operation with 25 kV / 50 Hz alternating voltage. Power is supplied via a single-arm pantograph . The total length of a multiple unit is 158.92 meters.

Passenger compartments

The HT65000 vehicles are equipped with economy and business class seats. There are a total of 55 Business Class seats, 354 Economy Class seats and two seats for handicapped passengers on the train. Economy Class has a seating configuration of 2 + 2, while Business Class has 3 seats (2 + 1) in a row. The trains are fully air-conditioned and equipped with numerous passenger information systems and a touchscreen integrated in the front seat for the entertainment program. There is also an on-board bistro.

commitment

The twelve train sets are currently used exclusively on the high-speed line from Ankara to Istanbul . In Istanbul, the trains were originally supposed to end their journey at the Istanbul Haydarpaşa station there. The last construction phase to Haydarpaşa has not yet been completed (as of 01/2015), so the journeys initially end at Pendik station. Meanwhile, Halkalı station is the end point. In Ankara, the Ankara train station serves as a station.

From March 13, 2009 to March 11, 2010, the trains handled around 1,250,000 passengers on the only section between Esenkent and Eskişehir in service at the time, with a length of 206 kilometers, for which 4500 journeys were due. In purely mathematical terms, this results in a capacity utilization of around 275 passengers per train.
