traffic
The Halkalı Station ( Turkish : Halkalı Garı ) is next to Küçükçekmece Lake and the railway Istanbul Sirkeci-Svilengrad , which went into operation here 1,872th The distance to Istanbul Sirkeci Railway Station is 28 km. The Halkalı station was the terminus of the S-Bahn from İstanbul Sirkeci . Here is a large depot that originally looked after the S-Bahn trains. It now supplies the trains of the Marmaray . Regional trains to Edirne , Uzunköprü , Çerkezköy and international trains to Bucharest , Belgrade and Sofia also serve the station .
Halkalı was also the freight yard for trains to Europe and an important container terminal . Due to the construction work to connect the Marmaray and the rehabilitation of the line towards Edirne, it could not be used for a long time.
The importance of the station has recently increased again. The Marmaray route was connected here. Since March 12, 2019, the S-Bahn trains to and from Tersane on the Asian side of Istanbul have started and ended here . The express train connections from Ankara and Konya also end here .
On February 28, 2019, the European Union and Turkey signed a contract for the construction of the Halkalı – Kapıkule high-speed line . For this, the European Union will provide 275 million euros to the total estimated project cost of 1 billion euros. The line is to be double-tracked and designed for a maximum speed of 200 km / h. After the start of high-speed traffic in the European part of Turkey, Halkalı is expected to be a stop on the European side of Istanbul.
