The association was founded on November 2, 1931. The tennis department of the Munich Post Sports Club became the Grün-Weiss Munich tennis club. Games began with 44 members on a rental facility in the Munich district of Nymphenburg, initially with four and later eight seats. In a very short time the number of members rose to 250. Even then, the TC Grün-Weiss was one of the leading Bavarian tennis clubs. In 1937, when the Deutsche Reichspost needed the Nymphenburg site for a Fermeldegebuilding, the TC Grün-Weiss was forced to reunite with the Post Sports Club and played on its courts on Arnulfstrasse. The spaces on Arnulfstrasse fell victim to the expansion of Munich's main train station, and so in 1941 the association found new premises on a rental facility in the historic and centrally located Luitpoldpark in Schwabing . In the last years of the war, the area was badly damaged by bombs. The old club house was spared from the bombs and was still in operation for 25 years in a wooden barracks. After payment of a severance payment of 6500 DM, the TC Grün-Weiss Luitpoldpark was finally entered in the club register on February 20, 1953 as an independent club and a member of the Bavarian Tennis Association (BTV) . The city of Munich wanted to reintegrate the tennis facility into the park by eviction action , but after negotiations with the city and state the lawsuit was accepted. Since then, the existence of the tennis sports facility in Luitpoldpark has been ensured by long-term lease agreements. In 1966 a new clubhouse with a restaurant and beer garden was opened.

Sporting successes

The TC Luitpoldpark had successes at the German and Bavarian levels, plus various individual titles at European and World Championships. The club's most successful player was Margot Dohrer , with three German women's championship titles in 1958, 1960 and 1961.

One of the main focuses of the club is still team sport. Of the current 730 members, 500 active players have a player license for team games. Both the 1st women's and the 1st men's teams have been playing in the highest Bavarian and German divisions and leagues for over 50 years. When the Bundesliga was founded in 1972, the first men of the TC Luitpoldpark were the only Bavarian club to qualify for the tennis Bundesliga (men) , in which they participated for a total of five years. The top player was Karl Meiler , German tennis champion of 1975. Other players in the Bundesliga were Klaus Klein, Helmut Scholz and Gustl Stephan, who are now active in the senior German division, the senior regional league.

The first women of the club have also played almost continuously in the highest league in Bavaria and Germany since the 1950s. The current young women's team in Luitpoldpark has been playing in the 2nd Bundesliga since 2009 with their top player Angelika Bachmann , German women's champion in 2004. The senior division of the club is particularly successful, nationally and internationally , 40, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70 to men 75 and for women in the classes women 30, 40, 50 to women 60 with its teams. The sporting highlights of the club were the 2009, 2010 and 2011 years. With up to eight teams, the club was represented in the top division, the regional league. Up to five teams took part as Bavarian champions in the finals of the German team championships. The TC Luitpoldpark also promotes and supports young people from kindergarten onwards. Around a quarter of all members are young people. The number of 32 registered teams with only 10 places applies nationwide as a high team-to-place ratio. Many classic sporting competitions, such as the ITF tournament Munich ITF Senior Open, German championships, Bavarian championships, take place here regularly. There was a high point in 2007 with the hosting of the World Cup for the Deaf. The 1st women became winners of the 2nd Bundesliga in 2019 and thus achieved promotion to the 1st Bundesliga for the first time.

Social events - Das Grün-Weiss-Brettl

The TC Luitpoldpark is also active in the social field. The Grün-Weiss-Brettl, a club's own cabaret, has now been in existence for 61 years. The association and its Grün-Weiss-Brettl have made guest appearances in all major Munich hotels over the course of 60 years, such as Bayerischer Hof, Hotel Regina, Hilton Hotel, Hotel Vierjahreszeiten or Holiday-Inn. The offers for players who only play tennis in the club for fun and enjoyment range from the leisure teams to the Schleiferl tournaments, the cockchafer and Spanferkl cups to jazz and open-air music events on the club grounds in Luitpoldpark .
