TV2 is the second largest private television broadcaster in Hungary and was the first private television to go on air in October 1997 . A diverse program consisting of series and self-produced programs for the advertising-relevant target group of 18 to 49 year olds is broadcast.

Ownership

The founding owners were the media group SBS and the Hungarian MTM group. In 2007, TV2 was bought by ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG, which also operated the channels FEM3 , PRO4 and Super TV2 . In December 2013 the owner officially changed through a management buyout by the former CEO Zsolt Simon and his CFO Yvonne Dederick. They also took over the Hungarian broadcasting chain as well as the Romanian broadcasters.

On October 30, 2015, the Hungarian competition authority approved the Hungarian-American film producer Andrew G. Vajna to buy the TV2 media group. The price should be around 63.5 million euros. Vajna, which the national conservative ruling party Fidesz of Victor Orban close stands is, since 2011, government commissioner for the Hungarian film industry. The Hungarian media entrepreneur Lajos Simicska , who had announced a “total media war” after breaking with Viktor Orbán in February 2015, asserted pre-emptive claims, which were negated by the previous owners.

Television channels

In 2015, the TV2 group included four television channels: TV2, Super TV2 , FEM3 and PRO4 .

TV2 is RTL Klub's biggest rival for first place in the ranking of the most watched Hungarian private channels.
