Andrew G. Vajna
Andrew G. Vajna (born August 1, 1944 as András György Vajna in Budapest ; † January 20, 2019 there ) was a Hungarian film producer .
Life
Vajna emigrated to the USA with his family in 1956.
With his long-time partner Mario Kassar , he founded the independent film studio Carolco Pictures in 1976 , which was successful in the 1980s and 1990s with independently produced action films ( Rambo , Rambo II - The Order , Rambo III , Red Heat , Total Recall ).
Already in 1989 Vajna sold his shares in Carolco and in November 1989 founded his own production company Cinergi Pictures Entertainment Inc. After a few successful productions ( Die hard: Now even more , Evita ) the company was dissolved in 1997.
Also in 1989 Vajna returned to Hungary and founded the film and video distribution company Intercom, which is now considered to be the national market leader. In addition, Vajna operated a number of casinos. Since 2011, the national conservative ruling party was Fidesz of Viktor Orbán related film producer and Government Commissioner for the Hungarian film industry.
In 2002, he teamed up again with his former partner Mario Kassar and founded the studio C-2 Pictures , which holds the rights to the Terminator series. Previous films from C-2: I Spy (2002), Terminator 3 - Rebellion of the Machines (2003), Basic Instinct - New Game for Catherine Tramell (2006) and the television series The Sarah Connor Chronicles (2007).
Andrew G. Vajna was in a relationship with the Hungarian actress Kata Dobó , who starred in the 2006 Hungarian box office hit Children of Glory, which was co-produced by Vajna . From 2013 he was married to the 38 years younger model Tímea Palácsik . Vajna died in Budapest in January 2019 at the age of 74.
