The Tahtali ( 2366  m , Tahtalı-Berg) is a mountain near Kemer , a resort on the Turkish Riviera near Antalya .

location

The Tahtalı dominates the landscape around Kemer . Between Antalya and Finikebucht it can be seen as the dominating peak of the Bey Dağları (Turkish Lord's Mountains ) mountain range , part of the Taurus Mountains that run through the entire south of Turkey . Its close proximity to the Mediterranean coast makes it visible to seafarers from afar. It is the highest mountain in the Olimpos Beydağları Milli Park. From November until June, the summit is covered with ice and snow. In spring, this layer of snow is often colored reddish-brown by the fine dusty Sahara wind blowing up, while it is often not visible in summer because of the clouds. The vegetation-free zone begins at an altitude of around 1900 meters. The ascent to the summit is a. possible from Beycik .

The Lycian long-distance hiking trail Fethiye - Antalya runs at the foot of the mountain .

The Tahtalı in ancient times

Gas field at Chimaera

In ancient times, the mountain was called Olympos , which means the seat of the gods. He had to share this name with many other high mountains. The name Olympos was also adopted from the ancient city of the same name near Çıralı .

At Olympos you will find the Chimaera , an underground gas field that still burns down today, which burned much more vigorously in ancient times than it does today. The ruins of the ancient city of Phaselis are also located at the foot of the Tahtalı.

The current Turkish name could be derived from tahta (Turkish: wooden panel, wooden board). More likely, however, is the derivation from the Turkish Taht (Turkish: throne (Olympos - throne of the gods)).

The Olympos Teleferik cable car , a Turkish-Swiss cooperation, has been running to the summit of Tahtalı at 2366  m since June 16, 2007 . Your valley station, accessible by a road, is about 10 km away from Tekirova or from Çamyuva at an altitude of 726  m on the eastern slope of the mountain ( 36 ° 32 ′ 32.9 ″  N , 30 ° 29 ′ 10.6 ″  E ). With a length of 4350 m, the Olympos Teleferik is one of the longer aerial tramways , but, contrary to what the operator's website claims, it is by no means the longest aerial cableway in the world. The lift was built by the Doppelmayr / Garaventa Group , one of the leading companies in the planning and manufacture of cable cars.

A material ropeway was first built for the construction of the cable car. This was used to transport around 3700 m³ of concrete, 4500 m³ of water, 420 t of steel and 8600 t of gravel to the mountain station and the track structures.

The two cabins, each with a capacity of 80 people, overcome the height difference of 1639 m in 10 minutes. They run on two suspension ropes with a diameter of 51 mm and are pulled by a pull rope with a diameter of 38 mm. The cable route runs over four cable car supports . With a maximum speed of 10 m / s (36 km / h) the aerial tramway has a capacity of 470 people per hour. The drive has an output of 1000 kW.
