Takagi Takeo ( Japanese 高木 武雄 ; born January 25, 1892 in Fukushima Prefecture , † July 8, 1944 in Saipan , Northern Mariana Islands ) was a Vice Admiral in the Imperial Japanese Navy .

After graduating from the Naval Academy in 1911, Takeo Takagi was the commander of a submarine in 1921 . In the early 1930s he went on a study trip to the United States and Europe . In the battle of the Java Sea they achieved an important victory over the Allied fleet lying there .

At the Battle of the Coral Sea in May of the same year, however, his fleet suffered a serious defeat. The same happened when he was in command of the 5th Cruiser Division as Vice Admiral in command of the Battle of Midway .

In 1943 Takeo Takagi was given command of the 6th submarine fleet. At the beginning of 1944 he moved their headquarters from Truk to the Mariana Island of Saipan .
