Takana Zion (actually Mohamed Mouctar Soumah ; born June 30, 1986 in Conakry , Guinea ) is a Guinean reggae singer. He sings in English , French and in the languages Susu , Fulani and Malinke .

biography

At school he was interested in history and felt social inequalities within his country early on. He realized that the word was a powerful weapon and decided to use it.

He began his career in the middle of the Guinean rap and dancehall scene, where he was quickly recognized and respected. However, in the years that followed, reggae made such a strong impression on him that he subsequently decided to produce reggae, as this genre of music expresses his feelings and efforts against social injustice most strongly. At the time he was heavily inspired by musicians such as Peter Tosh and Joseph Hill ( Culture ). Finally, he decided to travel to Mali to get in touch with supporters of the Rastafarian movement and to focus on his future.

In Bamako (Mali) he met a wide variety of artists, including Tiken Jah Fakoly . This promoted him and helped him to gain stage experience, e.g. B. in the Elysée Montmartre in Paris . He also supported him in the studio with other musicians such as Manjul ( Dub To Mali ), who had been running his Humble Ark label in Bamako since 2001 . Finally, with Manjul's help, Takana Zion produced his album Zion Prophet between 2006 and 2007 . The album was released in France in 2007 and Takana performed in France with Manjul's band The Ark Band .

In 2008 he began to prepare his second album in France, again in collaboration with Manjul. For this album he put together a band for the studio work from musicians who had already played with musicians like Alpha Blondy or the Wailers . The album was eventually released under the title Rappel A l'Ordre in 2009.

After his second studio album had been very successful, especially in his home country Guinea, and he had also become known in Europe within the reggae scene, he began work on his third album. For this album he again put together a line-up for the studio work, this time with reggae veterans such as Sly Dunbar for the drums, Sticky Thompson for the percussions and Robert Shakespeare for the keyboard. He also worked with Jamaican reggae greats such as Capleton . The album was finally released in 2011 under the title Rasta Government .

In 2012 Takana, now also known as the "African Sizzla ", released his fourth studio album under the name Kakilambe . This time it was produced in his home town of Conakry, more precisely in the Kamacina Studio, with the help of DJ Redeyes from RKF Production. Musical guests are again represented on this album, including the Jamaican Sizzla.
