Talat Özkarslı (born March 21, 1938 in Gaziantep ; † June 10, 2020 there ) was a Turkish football player . Through his many years of work for Galatasaray Istanbul , he is very strongly associated with this club. On fan and club pages he is seen as one of the most important players in club history. After the departure of the Galatasaray legend Metin Oktay , he took over the captain's armband and wore it until he left. Furthermore, due to his activity as a player and later as an official, he is regarded as an important personality of the Gaziantepspor club . During his playing days he was referred to by fans, the trade press and teammates as Koçero or Koçero Talat .
Player career

Özkarslı began playing football on the street and played for the first time as an amateur footballer at Şehreküstü SK . In 1960 he moved to the first division club Göztepe Izmir and quickly established himself as a regular player. Here the legendary coach of Galatasaray Istanbul , Gündüz Kılıç , noticed him and made sure that his club signed him. At Galatasaray he immediately established himself as a regular player and became a player legend through his successes.
In 1971 he left Galatasaray and moved to the third division club in his hometown, to Gaziantepspor . At the relatively newly founded club, he helped to make the club an institution in Turkish football. Already in his first season for Gaziantepspor one rose as a master of the TFF 2. Lig in the TFF 1. Lig . At Gaziantepspor he played until the summer of 1974 and then ended his playing career.
National team
Özkarslı played a total of 26 times for Turkey . He also played five times for the Turkish U21 selection and twice for the second selection of Turkey.
In 1965 he took part in the ECO Cup with Turkey and took second place. In 1967 he took part again with Turkey and won this cup.
Coaching career
At the end of the second division season 1982/83 he took over Gaziantepspor for eight interim matches .

- Since the opening of the new Türk Telekom Arena stadium , under the patronage of the main sponsor, Türk Telekom , Galatasaray Istanbul has been organizing thanksgiving for its legendary players before every home game. For example, on March 10, 2013, as part of the league match against Antalyaspor Özkarslı, a plaque of thanks for his many years of service and success was presented.
