Zigeunergraben viaduct

The Zigeunergraben viaduct is a 660 m long railway bridge on the Mannheim – Stuttgart high-speed line west of the Baden-Württemberg community of Oberderdingen .

The structure crosses the Zigeunergraben , the border between the parts of Baden and Württemberg.

Course and construction

The 660.00 m long structure has 15 fields with a uniform pillar spacing of 44.00 m. The superstructure is 4.82 m high and 14.30 m wide. The clear height is a maximum of 24.50 m. The construction costs of the bridge, which was built between 1984 and 1987, were around 20 million Deutschmarks.

The gradient drops in a southerly direction at 2.375 per thousand. The upper edge of the rail is at the northern abutment at 219.5  m above sea level. NN , at the southern abutment at 217.93 m and up to 29 m above the valley floor.

The pillars, abutments and superstructures (single-span girders) correspond to the framework planning for valley bridges of the former German Federal Railroad . The pillars are based on layers of loess and loess loam with nine large bored piles each 1.5 m in diameter and 11 to 26 m deep on layers of the Lettenkeuper . The rigidity of the substructures was checked in tests with vertical and horizontal test loads. The structure is based on the UIC  71 load pattern .

planning

As early as 1973, an approximately 700 m long and up to 30 m high bridge was planned.

On April 1, 1977, the Oberderdingen local council rejected the new route submitted by the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB). For its part, the DB refused to approve the construction of a bypass in June 1978 in order to persuade the community to accept the plans for the new route. In the course of the 135 million DM package agreed in November 1978 between Federal Transport Minister Kurt Gscheidle and Baden-Württemberg's Prime Minister Lothar Späth , the bridge was extended from 510 to 690 m. In February 1979 the municipality of Oberderdingen placed an additional tunnel under the municipality and shifted the route to the south as minimum requirements.

In mid-June 1979 the planning approval procedure for the Oberderdingen / Knittlingen section was initiated. The Oberderdingen municipal council rejected the submitted plans. The layout for section 10a (Oberderdingen) followed between September 10 and October 10. At the end of September 1979 there was a citizens' meeting in Oberderdingen on the new line. In October / November 1979 the municipality rejected the submitted route plans in the municipal area in its statement for the planning approval procedure. 438 objections to the planning were forwarded to the Karlsruhe regional council.

After its completion (1988), the structure served dumpers as a driveway for around two years , which were used for the construction of the neighboring earthworks.

The structure with a length of 660 m was planned as early as 1983. The working group Talbrücke Zigeunergraben was commissioned with the construction . It consisted of the companies Bilfinger + Berger Bau AG ( Karlsruhe branch ), A. Stumpf ( Bruchsal ) and Max Früh AG ( Achern ).
