Talkdemonic is an American avant-garde instrumental - duo from Portland , Oregon . The band consists of Kevin O'Connor and Lisa Molinaro.

history

Talkdemonic was founded by O'Connor in December 2002 after moving to Portland from Pullman , Washington . It started as a musical project to express his obsession with instrumental hip-hop and electronic music . O'Connor heard the word "Talkdemonic" in a local club, which in his eyes was a perfect fit for the project. Originally, O'Connor played concerts alone, with Molinaro's previously recorded viola pieces. The accordion , banjo , guitar and piano were also played from a notebook .

The first album, Mutiny Sunshine , was released on Lucky Madison in May 2004 and was recorded within a year. After a few solo concerts, O'Connor convinced Molinaro to become a full member of the band.

Talkdemonic was named Portland's Best New Band 2005 by Willamette Week and toured with The National and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah in the fall of 2005.

Most of 2005 the band spent performing and recording new songs. They signed with Arena Rock Recording Co., which also released their second album, Beat Romantic , in March 2006. The album received many positive reviews. After the release, Talkdemonic went on tour with Quasi, The Walkmen , Scout Niblett and The National.

In February 2007, they were signed by One Little Indian in the UK . The subsidiary label Tangled Up! released an expanded version of Beat Romantic in Europe on September 17, 2007. This version includes a cover by Brian Enos Sombre Reptiles and a music video for Mountain Cats .

Molinaro also went on tour for six months as a multi-instrumentalist and singer with The Decemberists , from late 2006 to early 2007.

Her third album, Eyes at Half Mast , was released in September 2008.

On October 4, 2011, their fourth studio album Ruins was released .
