The dam Picadas ( Spanish Presa de Picadas ) is a dam with hydroelectric power plant in the town of San Martin de Valdeiglesias , Community of Madrid , Spain . It dams the Alberche to a reservoir. The dam is used to generate electricity as well as irrigation and drinking water supply. It was completed in 1952. The dam is state-owned and operated by Naturgy .

Barrier structure

The barrier structure is a concrete gravity dam with a height of 59 m above the foundation base . The top of the wall is at a height of 520 m above sea level . The length of the top of the wall is 145 m. The volume of the dam is 82,000 m³.

The dam wall has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 44 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 1240 (or 1763) m³ / s via the flood discharge. The design flood is 991 (or 1500) m³ / s.

Reservoir

With the normal storage target of 519 m, the reservoir extends over an area of around 0.91 (or 0.92) km² and holds 15 (or 17) million m³ of water; 17 million m³ of this can be used to generate electricity.

power plant

The installed capacity of the power plant is 20 MW . The fall height is 58 m. The maximum flow rate is 60 m³ / s. The machine house is located about 200 m from the dam on the left side of the river.
