The El Burguillo Dam ( Presa de El Burguillo in Spanish ) is a dam with hydroelectric power plant in the municipality of El Tiemblo , Province of Avila , Spain . It dams the Alberche to a reservoir. The dam is used to generate electricity as well as irrigation and drinking water supply. It was completed in 1913. The dam is state-owned and operated by Naturgy .

Barrier structure

The barrier structure is a concrete gravity dam with a height of 91 m above the foundation base . The top of the wall lies at a height of 730 m above sea level . The length of the top of the wall is 300 m. The volume of the dam is 287,220 m³.

The dam wall has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 85 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 1171 (or 1175) m³ / s via the flood discharge. The design flood is 1600 (or 2411) m³ / s.

Reservoir

With the normal storage target of 729 m, the reservoir extends over an area of around 9.1 km² and holds 198 (or 201 or 208) million m³ of water; 198 million m³ of this can be used to generate electricity.

power plant

The installed capacity of the power plant is 48 (or 48.8) MW . The fall height is 82 m. The maximum flow rate is 75 m³ / s. The machine house is located about 500 m from the dam on the left side of the river.
