The Charco del Cura dam ( Presa de Charco del Cura in Spanish ) is a dam with hydroelectric power station in the municipality of El Tiemblo , province of Avila , Spain . It dams the Alberche to a reservoir. The dam is used to generate electricity as well as irrigation and drinking water supply. It was completed in 1931. The dam is state-owned and operated by Naturgy .

Barrier structure

The barrier structure is a concrete gravity dam with a height of 32 m above the foundation base . The top of the wall is at an altitude of 651 m above sea level . The length of the top of the wall is 130 m. The volume of the dam is 32,000 m³.

The dam wall has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 25 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 900 m³ / s via the flood discharge. The design flood is 1200 m³ / s.

Reservoir

With the normal storage target of 648 m, the reservoir extends over an area of around 0.34 (or 0.35) km² and holds 3 (or 4) million m³ of water; 3 million m³ of this can be used to generate electricity.
