The dam Seminoe ( English Seminoe Dam ) is a dam with hydroelectric plant in Carbon County , State of Wyoming , USA . It dams the North Platte River to a reservoir ( English Seminoe Reservoir ). The dam is located approximately 116 km (72 miles ) southwest of Casper . To the northwest of the reservoir lies Seminoe State Park . About 3 km (2 miles ) downstream from Seminoe is the Kortes Dam .
Construction of the dam began in 1936. It was completed in December 1938. Electricity was first generated in August 1939. In addition to generating electricity, the dam is also used for irrigation. It is owned and operated by the United States Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) and is also operated by the USBR.
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a concrete arch dam with a height of 90 m (295 ft ) above the foundation level . The top of the wall lies at an altitude of 1939 m (6361 ft) above sea level . The length of the top of the wall is 161.5 m (530 ft). The width of the dam is 26 m (85 ft) at the base and 4.5 m (15 ft) at the top. The volume of the structure is 160,550 m³ (210,000 cubic yards ).
Reservoir
At the normal storage target of 1937.5 m (6357 ft), the reservoir extends over an area of around 82.11 km² (20,291 acres ) and holds 1.25 billion m³ (1,017,280 acre-feet ) of water.
power plant
The power plant is located at the foot of the dam. The installed capacity is 40.5 (or 45 or 51.75) MW . The installed capacity was originally 32.4 MW; in the 1970s a performance upgrade was carried out. The average annual production is 150 million kWh . The 3 Francis turbines of the power plant each produce a maximum of 13.5 (or 15) MW. The drop height is 50.5 m (166 ft).
