description

In 1862 in Radebeul, Saxony, on the Krapenberg vineyard property , near the associated Krapenburg , the Leipzig pharmacist Ludwig Neubert built a valley system measuring approx. 40 x 110 m for the weather-protected cultivation of table grapes and fine fruit varieties that are sensitive to the cold. It is formed by six walls, each 2.5 to 3 meters high, at a distance of 6 meters each, which are provided with short, west-sloping roofs (French: talutage) to improve the microclimate . This results in around 1000 linear meters of cultivation trellis in this system. In contrast to most of the Talut walls, which are oriented from west to east in order to catch the southern sun, the walls of this complex run from northeast to southwest. Wine was grown on the east side and fruit that was sensitive to the cold on the west side.

Today the complex is one of the few in Europe and the only one in Germany that is still almost completely preserved and is a listed building. It is used by the Saxon State Winery Schloss Wackerbarth .
