criticism

To the novel Secret Place :

“The interweaving of two narrative strands is now common practice in detective novels, but few authors, like French, have mastered the art of strolling towards the tragedy in hundreds of detours. For pages (out of a total of 700) to pretend it was a boarding school novel. It shows the vulnerability as well as the tenacity of girls. ”( Frankfurter Rundschau , December 23, 2014 / literature)

“The social compulsion to adapt, to play along, can provoke extreme reactions - up to murder. French reflects her theme in many ways, delving deep into the psyche of four girls who try to find their own way against all odds (teachers, parents, other students, their own fears). The two investigators are also outsiders, although they are experts in their jobs. But while Conway seems to enjoy the role of the loner, Moran wants nothing more than to finally move forward. The fact that at the end of the long day in St. Kilda these roles will almost have been reversed is one of the many beautiful punch lines in this novel. ”( Spiegel Online , Marcus Müntefering, taken from December 30, 2014)
