Taramis was an Australian metal band from Melbourne that was formed in 1982 under the name Prowler and split up in the mid-1990s .

history

The band was formed in 1982 under the name Prowler by guitarist Craig Robertson, bassist Danny Komorr, drummer Joe Cordina and singer Joel Southby. The band initially covered songs by Iron Maiden before Mick Cawthan joined the band as the second guitarist. He left the band in 1983 while the band played their first appearances. The group only played songs by Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath . However, since this was badly received by the fans, the group began to work on their own songs, which were first played in 1985 at the Metal for Melbourne Festival. Then drummer Cordina left the band and was replaced by Dan Browne. The band then worked on their debut album; during this phase it renamed itself Taramis.

In 1987 the debut album Queen of Thieves was released , which was followed by a tour of Australia. In addition, the album was re-released in the USA via Metal Blade Records . Bassist Komorr left the line-up and was initially replaced by Andy Caveman, who, however, should also leave the band a little later and be replaced by Evan Harris. More gigs followed with the new line-up before guitarist Robertson, who was responsible for writing most of the songs, left the band. After a while, George Larin joined the cast as a suitable replacement. The band then wrote new material, which was released in 1991 in the form of the album Stretch of Imagination . The publication was followed by appearances with Sepultura and Ian Gillan . The band worked on another album, but the band could not finish the work as singer Southby moved to Sydney and the band split up in the mid-1990s. The band got back together for a one-off performance in late 1999.

style

In his review of Stretch of the Imagination, Uwe Schnädelbach from Metal Hammer assigned the music to progressive metal and made comparisons with bands such as Gypsy Kyss , Psychotic Waltz , Battlefield and Hades . In addition, influences from Power Metal can also be heard. The singing is also extremely high. thethrashmetalguide.com compared the vocals to Geoff Tate's , with Tate's vocals being even higher. Thrash metal influences were also heard out, which made thethrashmetalguide.com recognize parallels to bands like Watchtower and Realm .
