Tarata is a country town in the department of Cochabamba in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Tarata is the seat of the administration of the province of Esteban Arce and is located in the municipality of Tarata on the 490 km² fertile plateau of the Valle Alto . The village is located at an altitude of 2766 m south of the La Angostura reservoir .
geography
Tarata lies in the transition area between the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Central and the Bolivian lowlands. The mean average temperature of the region is around 18 ° C (see climate diagram Cochabamba) and fluctuates only slightly between 14 ° C in June / July and 20 ° C in October / November. The annual precipitation is only around 450 mm, with a pronounced dry season from May to September with monthly precipitation below 10 mm, and a humidity period from December to February with 90 to 120 mm monthly precipitation.

Tarata is located at a distance of 36 kilometers by road south-east of Cochabamba , the capital of the department of the same name.
From Cochabamba the paved highway Ruta 7 leads in a south-easterly direction 18 kilometers to the dam of La Angostura , from there a dirt road another 18 kilometers further south to Tarata.
