The gmina wiejska Tarnów is an independent rural municipality in Poland in the Powiat Tarnowski in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship . Its seat is in the independent city of Tarnów (German: Tarnau ).

history

Military cemetery 196 in Koszyce Małe

In May 1915, it came in the space between Tarnów and Gorlice to breakthrough battle of Gorlice-Tarnów , with one of the worst defeats of the Imperial Russian Army in World War I ended. Numerous military cemeteries were created in the places of the rural community.

In Zbylitowska Góra there is a mass grave from the Second World War . In 1942 and 1943 around 10,000 people, including 6,000 Jews (800 children), were executed here and buried in the Buczyna Forest.

Partner communities

The municipality of Tarnów was a partner municipality of the Bavarian district of Pfaffenhofen from the Ilm . Since Tarnów declared itself an “ LGBT-free zone ” in 2019 , the partnership was interrupted in 2020.
