The Tata Novus is the first new truck of Tata Motors since the acquisition of Tata Daewoo , the truck production of Daewoo . The Novus is based on the Daewoo Novus , which is built in South Korea . It came out in December 2005. Tata Motors became the first Indian manufacturer to offer a heavy commercial vehicle with an engine output of 300 HP (221 kW).

The Novus is powered by a Cummins diesel engine, type C8.3-300 (8.3 l displacement, 300 PS (221 kW)). Its fully synchronized transmission has ten forward gears and two reverse gears.
