The Tata Ace is a small delivery van (similar to the Japanese Kei Trucks ) with a flatbed or box body that was presented by Tata Motors in India in May 2005. With him, Tata competes with Bajaj Auto , Piaggio , Mahindra and Force Motors , which initially only offered three-wheel delivery vehicles in this market . A six-seat minibus version is sold as the Tata Magic. The curb weight is given as 840–945 kg.

history

In December 2000, Girish Wagh was called by Ravi Kant , Director of Tata Motors, to design a new range of delivery vans that deviated from the previous offering from Tata Motors. It was supposed to be a car cheap enough to take on three-wheeled rickshaws in the country. To solve this problem, Wagh decided to speak to tricycle rickshaw users to see what they thought of a future four-wheeled delivery van. All interviewees wanted a cheap car that was able to transport a certain amount of goods from the villages to the market. When asked why he would prefer a four-wheeled vehicle over the tricycle he was using now, one of the interviewees replied to Wagh: "If I had a four-wheeled vehicle, I would have better marriage prospects in my village." This meant that future owners would be next the handling of the transport task of a four-wheeled vehicle also promised greater prestige.

Tata Motors recently received an order from the US Postal Service for electrically powered Tata Ace delivery vans. Since January 2009, the electrically powered Tata Ace have been sold by Chrysler's Global Electric Motorcars .

Presentation and sales success

Tata Motors released the Ace in May 2005 for a little more than Rp. 200,000, and 100,000 units were sold in the first 20 months. Initially, the delivery van was only offered in white. Tata is building a new factory that can produce 250,000 Ace a year.

New segment

The Tata Ace has established a new market segment for small delivery vans in India. The aim of the company is to turn as many users of three-wheeled vehicles into users of four-wheeled delivery vans as possible with the 225,000 to 235,000 Rp. What also led to the introduction of these vehicles is the requirement that trucks over 3 t. Total weight in India after 7 p.m. are no longer allowed to drive into city centers in order to reduce traffic and exhaust emissions. Tata saw this as a niche in the market for the Ace.

Technical equipment

The engine has a displacement of 700 cm³, develops 16 bhp (12 kW) at 3200 min −1 and has a torque of 37 Nm at 2000 min −1 . The rear axle is driven by a fully synchronized four or five-speed gearbox. The permissible payload is 750 kg. The driver's cab is also more modern than on the tricycles.

Manufacturing locations

The small delivery truck is built in the Tata factory in Puna. A new factory is currently being built in Pant Nagar for its production.

Tata Magic and Tata Winger

Tata Magic

In June 2007 Tata brought out the closed version of the Ace, the Tata Magic , as well as a van called Winger , based on the Renault Trafic of the first generation (1980-2001). The company wants to change "the way the average Indian travel".

As a car, the Magic has a steel body and can accommodate four to seven passengers who can sit comfortably there. The side panels above the belt line are made of flexible plastic and can be rolled up to ventilate the interior.

The car is powered by a 700 cc water-cooled diesel engine that delivers 16 bhp (12 kW) and offers low fuel consumption and low maintenance costs. There are rigid axles on leaf springs at the front and rear, and the 12-inch wheels provide sufficient ground clearance. The Magic has a turning circle of 8.6 m, making it agile enough to maneuver in narrow side streets and in the traffic of India's congested city centers. The Magic has easy-to-read instruments, shelves and a digital clock in the dashboard as well as a radio preparation.

The Magic achieves the BS-III emissions standard and was developed for use in large and small cities and in the country. It is equipped with a guarantee of 36,000 km / 12 months and costs from Rp 260,000.
