The Tata 1510 and its sister model Tata 1512 , manufactured by Tata Motors in India , are the most common buses in India and its neighboring countries, such as the Seychelles . The models combine good equipment with low costs for the operator.

These are sturdy buses with 60 seats and the following equipment:

  • Tata Cummins turbo-charged diesel engine installed in the front, which drives the rear wheels via a cardan shaft
  • Five forward and one reverse gears, fully synchronized.
  • Power steering
  • Retarder

Tata builds the chassis with the front section and drive. Various independent wheelwright shops complement the bodies according to customer requirements.

Leading wheelwright companies are Khira Motors (part of Jayanard Khira & Co. Pvt. Ltd., state-owned transport company of Maharashtra ; main office in Pune ), Sutlej, Bharat, Standard, ARCO etc.

These types of buses are used by all transport companies, from the cheap ones, such as the state transport companies and city bus companies, to the expensive private providers who operate cost-intensive lines from city to city and overland.
