Long live death is a television film from the crime series Tatort . The by Hessian Radio Post produced the 1,001th episode scene and was on 20 November 2016 First erstgesendet. Wiesbaden commissioner Felix Murot is investigating his sixth case.
action
Chief Inspector Felix Murot is investigating a serial killer who has already killed five people, all of whom were found in the bathtub with their wrists cut . By means of a fictitious sixth murder based on a similar pattern, but differing from the previous acts, Murot and his colleagues succeed in getting the perpetrator to report to Murot to make it clear that he has nothing to do with the sixth murder. The perpetrator lures Murot into an abandoned house, where he shows him photos of previous murder victims. When he suddenly tries to anaesthetize Murot with a syringe from an ambush in the dark, he is overpowered and arrested by Murot's colleagues at the last moment. In the interrogation conducted by Murot, the arrested Arthur Steinmetz confesses to the five murders; however, there is no definitive proof of his guilt. Steinmetz stated that the motive was to have helped people who were either terminally ill or depressed. During the interrogation he also clarifies Murot's own depressive tendencies. Eventually Steinmetz reveals that he has another victim in his power, who lies tied up in a slowly filling bathtub and will drown if not found first. Murot's assistant Magda Wächter recognizes her daughter in the kidnapping victim. The terminally ill stonemason is ready to reveal the whereabouts of Wächter's daughter if Murot, whom stonemason had chosen as the sixth victim, commits suicide in return . Murot struggles with himself for a while, but then apparently goes into it. He goes into a hotel room with the already considerably weakened murderer, gets into a bathtub and cuts his wrists. A messenger brings the police a note from the dying stonemason about the whereabouts of Wächter's daughter, who can then be rescued at the last second - while Murot threatens to bleed to death in the bathtub. Shortly before Murot loses consciousness, with the last of his strength, he manages to turn the faucet on so far that the bathtub overflows and the water flows into the hotel corridor and two hotel guests notice it. Murot is saved. At the end of the film he enters a café where Magda Wächter and her daughter are staying.
background
The film was shot on 26 days from June 2, 2015 to July 9, 2015 in Frankfurt am Main and Wiesbaden .
Soundtrack
The soundtrack only contains one song that is played over and over again, regularly when the perpetrator commits a murder. This is "Fourth of July" by Sufjan Stevens . The song makes a decisive contribution to the mood of the film and has been mentioned in the press many times and positively.

Reviews
“No head in the box like in ' Se7en ', and yet this 'crime scene' leaves the viewer distraught like hardly any other psycho shocker. That is because of how Tukur lets his Murot penetrate deeply and sadly into the ambivalences of the case. "
“'Long live death' is a philosophy about death and whether there is a bright side of death. Perpetrator Steinmetz [...] talks about it with LKA man Felix Murot [...]; This very quiet 'crime scene' is partly a dialogue between the investigator and the murderer, i.e. between good and evil. What is not always so easy to distinguish, however, is that the good person as such is only an illusion. Nice script sentence: 'With the first contact comes the first suspicion.' "
Audience ratings
The first broadcast of Es lebe der Tod on November 20, 2016 was seen by 8.82 million viewers in Germany and achieved a market share of 23.6 percent for Das Erste .
