Tau Cross is a band project by Amebix founder Rob "The Baron" Miller. In addition to Voivod drummer Michel "Away" Langevin, the cast also includes electric guitarists Jon Misery ( Misery ) and Andy Lefton ( War // Plague ). The project was launched in 2013, and the recordings for the debut album Tau Cross took place in 2014 . This was released in May 2015 by Relapse Records . Tau Cross is often referred to as a supergroup because of the prominent members .

Band history

When it became clear that there would be no tour for the 2011 Amebix album Sonic Mass , Miller began working on new tracks. After the cast of Amebix broke up, he decided to publish the material elsewhere. First, he got in touch with guitarists Jon Misery and Andy Lefton, who agreed to participate in the project. Michel Langevin and Miller had been in loose contact by email since 2012 , during the course of which Langevin had stated that he would be available as a drummer when needed. The project came together in 2013 with this line-up. Because of the places of residence of those involved, the demo recordings were made at different locations. Based on the rough versions created by Miller, Langevin recorded the drum tracks in Montreal , then Miller added the bass tracks on his home island of Skye and in the end the two guitarists recorded their parts in Minneapolis . During the recording process, the musicians kept in touch via Skype , the audio files were exchanged via Dropbox and the final mix was carried out in Audiosiege in Portland (Oregon) . With the result, Miller applied to various record labels, but initially only received rejections. On the initiative of Brad Boatright, owner of Audio Siege, the demo came to Relapse Records. Miller had the recordings finalized at his own expense, so that Relapse finally received the finished album and only had to take care of the artwork , publication and promotion. In May 2015 Relapse Records released the band's self-titled debut album.

In March and April 2016, the band toured the United States and on April 16, 2016, the band performed at the Roadburn Festival in the Netherlands.

At the beginning of July 2019 Relapse Records separated from Tau Cross on the basis of a list in Rob Miller's booklet in which the well-known Holocaust denier Gerard Menuhin was thanked for "the inspiration for the record".

Music and lyrics

Rob Miller describes the band's music as "not categorizable". Killing Joke , Bauhaus and Joy Division are named as musical influences as well as Motörhead or New Model Army . The texts deal with occult topics that are settled in the 16th and 17th centuries.
