Takhiatash ( Cyrillic Тахиатош ; Karakalpak Taxıyatas , Cyrillic Тахыятас ; Russian Тахиаташ Tachiatasch ) is a city in which to Uzbekistan belonging to the Autonomous Republic of Karakalpakstan , located about 10 km south of karakalpakischen capital Nukus on 78 m above sea level on the left bank of the Amu Darya . Taxiatosh is an independent city. According to the 1989 population census, Taxiatosh had 43,000 inhabitants at that time, according to a calculation for 2009 the population is 62,100.
Taxiatosh was founded in December 1950; Taxiatosh achieved city status in 1953. Near Taxiatosh there is a reservoir and a railroad crossing over the Amu Darya on the route from Urganch via Daşoguz in Turkmenistan to Nukus; Taxiatosh has its own stop. The Turkmen border is only a few kilometers from Taxiatosh.
