history

After Niger gained independence in 1960, the national territory was divided into 32 districts ( circonscriptions ). One of them was the district Nomade de Tahoua (also Tahoua nomads) with Tchintabarades as the main town. 1964 an administrative reform divided Niger into seven departments, the predecessors of the later regions, and 32 arrondissements , the predecessors of the later departments. The district Nomade de Tahoua was converted into the Arrondissement Tchintabaraden.

In 1998, the previous Arrondissements of Niger were elevated to departments, each headed by a prefect appointed by the Council of Ministers. In the course of this, the Abalak department was separated from the Tchintabaraden department. The department has been divided into municipalities since 2002. Before that, it consisted of the urban center Tchintabaraden and a residual zone. In 2011, Tassara and Tillia were separated from the Tchintabaraden department as separate departments.

population

According to the 2012 census, the Tchintabaraden department has 143,598 inhabitants. In the 2001 census, prior to the spin-off of Tassara and Tillia, the population was 89,457, the 1988 census was 84,321 and the 1977 census was 103,169.
