criticism

Journalists were reportedly prevented from reporting cholera outbreaks while he was Minister of Health. In January 2020, Tedros, whose election as WHO director general was supported by the Chinese government, is said to have withheld information about the human-to-human transmission of COVID-19 at the urging of Chinese President Xi Jinping , which the WHO denies . Since the WHO praises China's approach and the alleged openness of its leadership and leaves propaganda messages uncommented, Tedros has often called for his resignation.
