The Tegernsee mountains form a mountain region between the Isar in the west and the Tegernsee and south of the Tegernsee the Rottach , white Valepp and Grundache , in the east and are thus part of the Bavarian Prealps . The Tegernsee Mountains thus form the westernmost area of ​​the Mangfall Mountains . The Schlierseer Berge adjoins to the east and the Kocheler Berge to the west .

The two highest peaks of the Tegernsee Mountains are the Halserspitze (1,862 m) and the Risserkogel (1,826 m). Well-known hiking destinations are the Schinder (1,808 m), Hirschberg (1,668 m), the Leonhardstein (1,452 m) and the Fockenstein (1,564 m). Climbing areas are the Roßstein (1,698 m) and Buchstein (1,701 m) massifs , the Plankenstein (1,768 m) and, to a lesser extent, the Leonhardstein.
