The Kochel mountains are up to 2086 m above sea level. NHN high mountain group of the Bavarian Prealps and thus part of the Northern Limestone Alps , which lies entirely in Germany .
Boundary and subdivision
They include the Estergebirge in the south with the Krottenkopf highest peak, limited by the Loisachtal the west and Walchensee in the east, the Walchensee mountains north of Estergebirges with home garden and Herzogstand, delimited by the Eschenlainetal the south and Walchensee in the east, and the Benediktenwand group with its northern foothills, bounded in the east by the Isar valley.

Adjacent mountain groups in the west are the Ammer Mountains and in the east the Tegernsee Mountains . The Vorkarwendel and the Wetterstein Mountains begin in the south . The Bavarian Alpine Foreland follows the northern foothills .

Waters and lakes
The Kocheler Mountains are bordered by the large rivers Isar in the east and Loisach in the west. The large lakes Walchensee and Kochelsee also frame the area. In the further, especially in the karst areas of the Estergebirge, there are only a few larger standing waters, including the high-lying Wildsee .
