The Teklanika River is an approximately 150 km long left tributary of the Nenana River in Alaska .
The river has its source in the northeastern part of Denali National Park in the Alaska range . The Teklanika River is fed by an unnamed glacier that borders the Cantwell Glacier in the south . The Teklanika River flows north. It cuts through two ridges before it reaches the Tanana-Kuskokwim Plain and finally flows into the Nenana River south of Nenana . Right tributaries are the Sanctuary River and Savage River . The teklanika river is part of the river system of the Yukon River .
The Teklanika River has a ramified course. It splits up several times into a network of canals, which are separated by small islands, sand and gravel banks. As it traverses Primrose Ridge and Tekla Ridge , it narrows and its flow rate increases. On the lower course in the southern Tanana Valley meanders he finally fanned by a system of Altwasserschlingen and oceans to the mouth in the Nenana River.
Below the confluence of the Savage River, the mean discharge is 19.8 m³ / s. The months with the highest discharge are June, July and August.
In the report Into the Wild , filmed by Sean Penn , the Teklanika River, which has risen from the snowmelt, cuts off Christopher McCandless ' way back to Healy .
