Telfes ( Italian : Telves ) is a fraction of the municipality of Ratschings in South Tyrol . Telfes is one of the first settlements in the municipality. The fraction consists of the two nearby villages Obertelfes and Untertelfes.
location
The fraction is located on the south-facing sunny slope west of Sterzing . The villages are located at an altitude of about 1200 to 1300 meters. Seen from Sterzing, the first village is Obertelfes, which is just under three kilometers from Sterzing.
history
In Untertelfes, the miners of the mining industry lived on the Telfer Weißen , in Obertelfes, however, the farmers. The church in Untertelfes is older than that in Obertelfes. The meaning of the name Telfes is unclear. The settlement is first documented in the so-called Quartinus deed of 827, in which the Breonian Nurihtal Quarti (nus) transferred property to “Telues” to the San Candido monastery .
After a flood in Untertelfes and a fire in Obertelfes, the quarreling residents of Telfes united. Today around 500 people live in the Telfes fraction.
Legend of the "widow Brindl"
In Untertelfes there were once three miners who mined ore below the Telfer white. One day an ox came up to the tunnel. The squires were so hungry that they skinned the ox alive and ate it. God was so angry about this that he buried the miners alive in the tunnel. Her wives were stopping by a source when the bad news reached them. As a result, this source was called "Widow Brindl".
