history
In 1573 the Terregles Parish Church was opened in Terregles . However, only fragments of this building remain, mainly the choir , which were integrated into the new church built around 1800. The village was the headquarters of the Lords Herries of Terregles , whose titles and possessions were revoked and confiscated due to their participation in the Jacobite uprisings of 1715. Probably towards the end of the 1780s, the family left the mansion terregles house building. After a fire devastated the building, which was redesigned and expanded by Robert Smirke in the 1830s , it was demolished in 1964. The stables, which are now protected as a Category A monument, have remained.
As part of the census survey in 1961, the small town of Terregles counted 52 inhabitants.
