Terrestra Silverstream , the official match ball of the EM 2000

The Terrestra Silverstream is the official match ball for the 2000 European Football Championship in Belgium and the Netherlands . The soccer ball manufactured by Adidas later served as the basis for the Adidas Finale , the match ball of the UEFA Champions League since the 2000/01 season .

properties

Compared to previous game balls, the Terrestra Silverstream introduced a number of innovations. The surface of the ball is covered with an ergonomic foam layer made of polyurethane , which makes the football softer and easier to control. In addition, the inside of the ball is surrounded by a thin layer of gas-filled microspheres, which distribute the force of a shock evenly over the entire ball. This technique, which ensures a more precise and easily assessable flight curve, was later used again for the European / World Championship balls Fevernova and Roteiro .

The Terrestra Silverstream was one of the last game balls of its kind in which the individual hexagons and pentagons were sewn together. With the Roteiro at the 2004 European Football Championship , the balls were thermally bonded for the first time.

design

The ball owes its name and design to the rivers in the host countries Belgium and the Netherlands. Because of their shimmering surface in the morning sun, the rivers were also referred to as "silver streams" by the inhabitants. These streams can also be found in the design of the ball in the form of small, silver applications.
