Adidas Roteiro, match ball of the 2004 European Football Championship

Roteiro is the official match ball for the 2004 UEFA European Football Championship (Euro 2004 ) in Portugal .

properties

The design is silver gray and corresponds to the regulations of the FIFA (eg 68.5 cm to 69.5 cm circumference; mass 420 grams to 445 grams; 0.8 bar air pressure ).

For the first time, this soccer ball was not sewn together, but thermally glued. Therefore it consists only of plastic ( polyurethane ). In addition, there is a small weight opposite the valve, which is intended to compensate for the imbalance .

The Roteiro , presented in Lisbon on December 1, 2003 , was named after the logbook of the famous Portuguese navigator and explorer Vasco da Gama . The aqua-metallic basic color of the ball with blue stripes was supposed to be reminiscent of the sky and the sea, while fine silver lines were supposed to represent the coordinate system, which was used and perfected by the Portuguese sailors at the time of da Gamas.

While the material of the balls was optimized again and again over the years, the traditional manufacturing technology had been exhausted. With this ball, the new technology of thermal bonding was used for the first time , in which the PU panels of the ball surface are not sewn, but glued. According to the manufacturer Adidas , this should lead to more durability, higher water resistance and a more constant quality level in production.

The flight characteristics of the Roteiro manufactured by Adidas are described very differently. Some pro - football players say, "The ball is unpredictable," others say again: "It makes for even more feel for the ball."
