Terret Gris
The white grape variety Terret Gris is a variation of the old Terret variety from Languedoc in the south of France . It was widespread there and still occupied around 8,140 hectares of vineyards in 1958 . Since the variety is very susceptible to diseases, it has hardly been planted for a long time. In 1999, therefore, only 201 hectares of wooded area were registered.
It is approved in the Languedoc appellations of Corbières , Minervois and Coteaux du Languedoc as well as in the Provence region of Palette . It brings acidity into the white wines blended from several varieties .
Together with the varieties Terret Blanc and Terret Noir , it forms the family of well-known varieties of Terret.
Parentage: Variant of Terret
Synonyms: Bourret, Tarret, Terrain, Terret bourret, Terret rose
Ampelographic varietal characteristics
In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:
- The shoot tip is open. It is very hairy white to tomentose, greenish with a slightly reddish tinge. The bronze-colored, blistered young leaves are only slightly hairy.
- The medium-sized and thick leaves are five-lobed and moderately deeply indented. The stem bay is lyre-shaped and open, with the tips slightly overlapping at the end of the stem bay. The blade is bluntly serrated. The teeth are set medium-wide compared to other grape varieties.
- The conical to cylindrical grape is medium to large in size and has dense berries. The elongated berries are medium-sized and slightly gray in color.
The grape variety ripens around 30–35 days after the Gutedel and is therefore considered to ripen late.
The variety is susceptible to the genuine and downy mildew , but hardly from the gray mold affected.
