Terry Haass

Terry Haass , actually: Tereza Haass , also in Czech Haassová (born November 17, 1923 in Český Těšín , Czechoslovakia ; † March 1, 2016 in Paris ) is a French painter and graphic artist of Czech descent.

Life

As a Jew, Terry Haass and her family fled to the USA before the German occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1938 . In 1941 she received a scholarship to study at the " Art Students League " in New York . She got to know Albert Einstein . After the war she moved to Paris. She learned graphic techniques at the La Courière school , where she met Pablo Picasso . Her abstract painting and graphic works attracted international attention. She worked with the graphic process aquatint and used silicon carbide .

Terry Haass took part in archaeological expeditions to Afghanistan and Israel . In 1959 she took part in documenta 2 in Kassel in the graphics department . She uses a wide variety of materials in her work, such as metal, plexiglass and others. Her goal is the artistic union of the three elements: light , earth and space .

She only returned to her home country of the Czech Republic for the first time in the 1990s . In 2006, a large retrospective of her art was held in Olomouc , a city where she studied . Terry Haass lived in Paris and New York City.
