The Teufelskadrich near Lorch in the Kammerforst in the Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis is an area of approx. 380 hectares of wooded stone slopes that drop steeply into the Rhine Valley and is part of the Europe-wide nature reserve Natura 2000 . The highest elevation at 415 m above sea level. NHN is the devil's squad itself.
history
As Kadrich (also Katerich or Kaarech) grinding channels for the transport of wood from the hinterland down into the Rhine valley were called. On the lower slopes of the Kadrich, viticulture and fruit growing continued into the 20th century, and coppice forest was used on the less steep slopes in order to gain stakes for viticulture and oak trees for tannery . The open quarries in which quartzite was extracted have clearly shaped the landscape.
Protected area
In 1995, an area of 138 hectares was first designated as a nature reserve , in 2000 it was first recorded and then in 2004 as a Natura 2000 area.
Protected habitats and species according to the Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive :
- warm dry sessile oaks - hornbeam forests
- siliceous stone and block heaps (Rosseln)
- Silicate rocks with pioneer vegetation
- Grove beech forest
- Gorge and mixed forest slopes
- Alluvial forests with black alder and ash

- Russian Bear (Spanish Flag)
- Wall lizard
- Gray , middle and black woodpecker
- Little Schiller Butterfly
- Little doll robber
legend
According to a legend, Garlinde, the daughter of the knight Sibo von Lorch, was kidnapped by the devil and brought to the mountain spirits on the summit of the Kadrich. Everyone who wanted to save them was hit by a rain of stones while trying to climb the Kadrich and had to get to safety. Only the young knight Rudhelm finally managed to free Garlinde with the help of dwarves.
