The Teufelskanzel is a rock cliff designated as a natural monument in the Deister near Nienstedt , a district of Bad Münder am Deister in the Hameln-Pyrmont district in Lower Saxony .

The Teufelskanzel is located about 2 km north of the center of Nienstedt on the southwest slope of the Deister about 100 m below the ridge . The Teufelskanzel is a sandstone block categorized as a rock cliff with an estimated volume of approx. 37 m³. On the Deisterhang there are numerous other smaller sandstone blocks in the area around the Teufelskanzel. The reason for this is the different weathering of the sandstone and marl layers from the Lower Cretaceous Period that emerged on the southwest slope and fell to the northeast .

Natural monument

The lower nature conservation authority of the Hameln-Pyrmont district runs the "Teufelskanzel im Deister" under the label ND-HM 174 as a natural monument . Characteristics and geological significance are mentioned as protection grounds .
