The Teufelssteine are a rock formation up to 35 meters high at 750  m above sea level. NHN meters high in the upper Ore Mountains . The rocks, known for their climbing routes, are located in the north of the city of Johanngeorgenstadt in the Saxon Erzgebirgskreis , Germany.

The Teufelssteine ​​are located in the Steinbach valley north of the Steinbach and Neustadt districts belonging to Johanngeorgenstadt . In terms of natural space, they are in the east of the Western Ore Mountains , the eastern border of which is the Schwarzwasser . The Teufelssteine ​​are in the area of ​​the "Steinbachtal Nature Trail". They can be reached via the "Steinbachweg" and the "Schimmelgut" from Steinbach, the "Rundwanderweg Kanzelstein" or the "Graupnerweg" from Erlabrunn .

The devil's stones are made of Eibenstock granite , which is coarse-grained in this area and contains the minerals feldspar, quartz, mica and tourmaline. Today's distinctive shape of the rocks was created by rainwater and crevice frost ( wool sack weathering ).

In 1925 the Teufelssteine ​​were made accessible for climbing. Today there are 110 climbing routes and variants on the massif and the rock needle, which reach a height of 34 meters. The difficulty levels according to the UIAA scale of the 16 climbing routes designated by the Alpine Club range from II (moderate) to VIII + (extremely difficult).

The climbing area consists of the Teufelsstein and the Teufelsstein massif. The Teufelsstein massif consists of six sectors:
