The Lower Saxony Basketball Association e. V. (short: NBV) is the state association of basketball clubs and sports clubs with basketball departments in the state of Lower Saxony . He is a member of the State Sports Association of Lower Saxony and the German Basketball Association .

Structure and responsibilities

The NBV is responsible for running games in Lower Saxony from the U10 age group to the upper league in the adult sector. The association is subdivided into the basketball districts of Braunschweig, Hanover, Lüneburg and Weser-Ems.

The Presidium of the Lower Saxony Basketball Association consists of the Executive Board (President and Vice-Presidents), the chairmen of the four districts and assessors.

According to the association's statutes, the tasks of the NBV include, in particular, the representation of its members, the operation of matches, the promotion of competitive sports, the preparation and support of selected teams, training, further education and promotion in coaching and refereeing, promotion of youth work, school sports and popular and Senior sports.

history

In the late 1940s and early 1950s, basketball in Lower Saxony spread through the university towns of Göttingen , Hanover and Braunschweig in particular . In 1949 there were 30 clubs with basketball departments. According to the German Basketball Association, the Lower Saxony Basketball Association was founded in 1950, with Emil Göing as its first chairman . The Lower Saxony State Sports Association decided on November 13, 1953 to recognize the sport of basketball and to oversee it through an association or specialist committee. The NBV itself, however, specifies September 23, 1963 as its founding date.

In 1996 the NBV had 365 member clubs according to the Lower Saxony State Sports Association . In 2018, the NBV had 226 member clubs with basketball departments. The number of members in the NBA in 2018 was 18,100 (4,868 female and 13,232 male).

Honors

The Lower Saxony Basketball Association awards a gold and silver badge of honor. The personalities honored with the highest distinction (“Golden Badge of Honor in the NBV”) include Walther Meyer , Wessel Lücke , Dennis Schröder and Daniel Theis , among others .
