The Berliner Basketball Verband e. V. (short: BBV) is the umbrella organization of basketball clubs and sports clubs with basketball departments in Berlin . Like all German regional basketball associations, the BBV is a member of the German Basketball Federation (DBB). The BBV is also a member of the Berlin State Sports Association.
history
The Berlin Basketball Association was founded in 1949, and Wolfgang Kraft became the first association president. The first BBV office was set up in the private rooms of Herbert May in Dahlmannstrasse ( Berlin-Charlottenburg ), who managed the fate of the young association and, after the establishment of the German Basketball Association (DBB), also managed the business of the federal association.
The association's first member clubs were: ASV Berlin, Berliner Sport-Club, VfL Lichtenrade, TuS Lichterfelde , Neuköllner Sportfreunde , OSC Berlin , VfV Spandau , Sutos Spandau, VfL Sportfreunde , SSC Südwest.
In mid-May 1951, the BBV organized the finals of the 5th German Championship on behalf of the German Basketball Federation. In the following years, Berlin hosted this tournament several times. In addition to the visiting clubs FC Bayern Munich , Oldenburger TB and ATV Düsseldorf, the Neukölln Sportfreunde took part in the first event in Berlin as local representatives. In the 1950s, functionaries of the Berlin Basketball Association dominated the Presidium of the German Basketball Federation: from 1953 onwards, half of the national board were BBV representatives. In 1956, the DBB Bundestag took place in Berlin for the first time.
In 1975 the Berlin Basketball Association hired the Brazilian Raimondo Nonato De Azevedo , a national coach for the first time, who was also national coach in 1976. In 1980 the BBV hosted a European Cup final for the first time in the association's history: Real Madrid won the final in the European Cup against Maccabi Tel-Aviv in the Deutschlandhalle .
In 1982 the office of the BBV moved to the Olympic site, and in 1986 they moved into the premises in Bismarckallee.
In the summer of 1990 the “Berlin Summer Round” took place: teams from the east and west of the city took part in this tournament. In autumn 1990, the clubs in the eastern part of the Berlin Basketball Association joined.
From 1992, the BBV hosted the Supercup , where the German national team met other countries. In 1993, Berlin was one of the venues for the preliminary round (the BBV organized and directed the game) to the venues of the European Championship .
In the summer of 1998, the BBV hosted the intermediate and final round of the women's world championship . In the same year, the association's office moved back to the Olympic site.
