The basketball association Saar e. V. is the association of basketball clubs and sports clubs with basketball departments in Saarland .

history

The association was founded on January 11, 1958 in Saarbrücken , and Franz Martin was elected its first chairman.

Martin stayed in office until 1965. From 1965 to 1977 Manfred Schönsiegel was president of the association, from 1977 to 1982 Monika Buchmann held the office. In the period from 1982 to 1988 Werner Ney led the fortunes as chairman of the association, from 1988 to 2001 Wolfgang Hoffmann acted as president. Franz-Josef Kamp held this office from 2001 to 2016, and Dirk Kaufmann was his successor in 2016.

As of December 2011, the Saar Basketball Association had around 1900 members and 22 member clubs. In 2017 there were 1,400 players in 24 clubs.

By winning German championship titles, cup successes and European Cup appearances, the women of TV Saarlouis also attracted other clubs in the association and ensured that basketball was highly valued in Saarland.

Tasks and structure

According to the statutes, the purpose of the association is to "promote and spread the sport of basketball. It should arouse and develop the interest of young people in this sport. "

In carrying out the gaming operations in the leagues 1. Regionalliga Southwest, 2. Regionalliga Southwest / North and Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz / Saar basketball Saar works with the Basketball Association of Rhineland-Palatinate , the Hessian Basketball Association and the Basketball Association of Baden-Wuerttemberg together .
