Théophile Alexis Durand

Théophile Alexis Durand (born September 4, 1855 in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode , † January 12, 1912 ibid) was a Belgian botanist . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " T.Durand ".

Live and act

Durand worked with Henri François Pittier de Fabrega on the Swiss flora. From 1879 he worked at the Botanical Garden of Belgium, where he succeeded François Crépin as director. He married Sophie Durand, b. van Eelde. Both worked for the plant Genera Plantarum of George Bentham and Joseph Dalton Hooker . He wrote, among others, Sylloge Florae Congolanae , which his daughter Hélène illustrated.

Honors

In 1896, Johann Otto Böckeler named the sour grass genus Durandia after Durand. The genus Durandeeldea Kuntze from 1891 honors Théophile Alexis Durand and his wife Sophie Durand geb. van Eelde.
