Thal is a locality in the Frankenau district of the Reichstädt municipality in the Greiz district in Thuringia .

location

The Thal settlement is located 300 m east of Frankenau , with which it has grown together, on a hillside. To the south of the village, on the road to Reichstädt, on the mountain top is a transmitter from the GDR era. The striking steel lattice mast now serves as an antenna carrier for the E-Plus cellular network.

history

The hamlet was first mentioned in a document on June 18, 1413. Thal belonged to the Wettin office of Altenburg , which from the 16th century onwards was under the sovereignty of the following Ernestine duchies due to several divisions during its existence : Duchy of Saxony (1554 to 1572), Duchy of Saxony-Weimar (1572 to 1603), Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg (1603 to 1672), Duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenburg (1672 to 1826). When the Ernestine duchies were reorganized in 1826, the place came back to the duchy of Saxony-Altenburg. After the administrative reform in the duchy, Thal belonged to the Eastern District (until 1900) and to the Ronneburg District Office (from 1900). From 1918 the village belonged to the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg , which was added to the State of Thuringia in 1920. In 1922 Thal came to the district of Gera .

On July 1, 1950, Thal came to the community of Reichstädt together with Frankenau. During the second district reform in the GDR in July 1952, the existing states were dissolved and the districts were redesigned. Thus, Thal, as a district of the Reichstädt community, initially came to the Leipzig district with the Schmölln district . In December 1952, the Reichstädt community and its districts were reorganized into the Gera-Land district in the Gera district , which had belonged to Thuringia as the Gera district since 1990 and which was incorporated into the Greiz district during the Thuringian district reform in 1994 .

traffic

Between 1887 and 1972 there was a station on the Meuselwitz – Ronneburg railway line between Thal and Frankenau , which was called "Frankenau" until 1953 and then "Reichstädt". Thal is located on Kreisstraße 112.
