Thalia's companions

Thalia's Kompagnons is the theater of the two Nuremberg- based puppeteers and directors Joachim Torbahn and Tristan Vogt. Her repertoire includes pieces for adults and children.

history

The puppet theater was founded in 1990 under the name "Tristans Kompagnons" as a touring theater , since 2006 the two puppeteers have been active as "Thalias Kompagnons". Between 1997 and 2008 they operated a joint venue in Nuremberg with the Salz & Pfeffer Theater, the “Theater der Puppen im KaLi”. They give guest performances all over the world and their productions have been awarded numerous prizes - including the City of Nuremberg Prize for Art and Science 2008.

Joachim Torbahn studied painting in Vienna and works as a set designer at numerous opera houses and theaters. He has also been working for Thalia's companions since 1990 as a figure and stage designer as well as a director, and since 1998 also as a player. Tristan Vogt studied German and sociology and has been a full-time puppeteer, author and director since 1990. Both ensemble members teach at the "Ernst Busch" Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin (Puppetry Department) as guest lecturers.

Classification in the genre

Within the genre of puppet theater , which makes use of the representational technique of animation , the productions of Thalia's Kompagnons represent mixed forms of puppetry, drama and musical theater ; in addition, they created a special synthesis of fine arts and theater: the painting theater. The puppeteer tells a story by painting, which develops and changes like the resulting picture, and at the same time demonstrates the techniques of painting. In her productions, Thalia's companions a. a. shaped by the "Ernst Busch" school; they often turn folk theater traditions ironically and affectionately on their heads or play with the conventions of puppet theater . As a form of play, in addition to the peep box stage with hand puppets, there is also the open play with various other figure forms, such as masks , table figures and everyday objects, as well as video projections.
