The Red Stage Theater is a cabaret in the St. Peter district of Nuremberg . Founded in 2006 on the premises of the Tanzfabrik Nürnberg, it expands the cultural offerings of the Central Franconian metropolitan region with events from the fields of theater , cabaret , music and dance . In December 2011 the non-profit cultural association Rote Bühne e. V. and has been the sponsor of the private theater ever since. Julia Kempken is the first chairwoman and artistic director .

background

With a program of around 60 performances per season, of which over a third are in-house productions, a forum has been created over ten years that presents regional and international artists. Less well-known cabaret artists get the opportunity to perform in events or series of events. With two seasons per year, the Rote Bühne theater has set itself the goal of promoting and maintaining art , culture , education and upbringing . This area of responsibility includes:

  • Public implementation and production of cultural events in the fields of theater, cabaret, dialect , music, artistic and traditional dance
  • Engagement of artists from the above areas. This is intended on the one hand to support and promote regional artists, on the other hand to give national and international artists and lecturers a platform.
  • Training and further education of artists and interested laypeople, especially young people
  • Organization of exhibitions in the field of education
  • Promotion of broad cultural effects

In order to be able to offer the audience from the region a professional framework, the Rote Bühne, despite its economically efficient own contribution, is dependent on financial support and is funded by the city of Nuremberg and the district of Middle Franconia. Equally relevant is the voluntary and financial support of the members of the non-profit association.

Artistic focus

The red stage theater finds its artistic and aesthetic focus of its own productions in the first half of the 20th century. The 1920s to 1940s, for example, shaped the artistic work in the form of the Roaring Twenties . The historical interest relates both to international realities (influences from the United States) and to national and regional history. For example, in the music theater production Die Blechtänzerin (directed by Christian Schidlowsky). The Rote Bühne has been looking for new event rooms since 2016, as it can currently only offer performances on Saturdays and Sundays (due to the operation of the dance school). It aims to establish itself as a venue with a permanent budget for the city of Nuremberg and with a program focus expanded to include theater production up to the 1950s.
