Thayer Tutt Trophy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Thayer Tutt Trophy was an ice hockey tournament for national teams . The competition was organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF in 1980, 1984 and 1988 for those national teams that had not qualified for the Winter Olympics.

The Thayer Tutt Trophy replaced the placement round that had existed at the Olympic ice hockey tournaments until 1976. From 1992 onwards, world championships were held in the Olympic years - as in 1972 and 1976 - so that the competition was discontinued.

The competition was named after William Thayer Tutt , President of the IIHF from 1966 to 1969 and President of the Amateur Hockey Association of the United States from 1972 to 1986 .
