Thayer Tutt Trophy 1980

The Thayer Tutt Trophy 1980 was the first edition of this Hockey - competition . Those members of the International Ice Hockey Federation who had not qualified for the 1980 Winter Olympics were eligible to participate .

The tournament was held from March 8 to 16, 1980 in Ljubljana , Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia . The award took place on the occasion of the celebrations for 50 years of ice hockey in Yugoslavia. However, the tournament was overshadowed by the fact that the Yugoslav head of state Josip Broz Tito was dying.

mode

The ten participants played a preliminary round in two groups (each against each other). The two first placed qualified for the final round. This was also played in group form, whereby the result of the preliminary round game of the two first-placed winners is taken over. The teams in places 3 and 4 played a placement round in the same mode.
